SLIPPAGE: Performances

How do we mark social progress made possible by performance? We pay attention to the stories of those who have worked in the shadows; those whose hushed whispers tell of survival against long odds. SLIPPAGE is concerned with these minoritarian voices, stories that help us understand how to thrive amid indifference.

SLIPPAGE performances explore a possibility of rethinking archival materials, now embedded into a theatrical landscape altered by technology. These examples of work from 2004-2019 feature collaborations that explore themes of bank redlining and gentrification; ancestry as destiny; how places hold history; and madness as a surplus effect of Black creativity.
